Beginner Trombone Camp 2025
Beginner Trombone Camp is for:
-
students entering their first year of band and would like to get a head start
-
students who are switching to trombone from a different instrument
-
students who have struggled during their first year on the trombone and want a fresh start beginning with step one.
-
Beginner Camp members automatically are signed up for the Music Basic Training Camp as this is an essential part of learning how to effectively play the instrument.
-
Directors, please read the "Note to Directors" added at the end of this page.
Goals of the camp:
-
Build an understanding of expectations to be a trombone player
-
Good air flow to “motivate” vibration using the innovative Vizi-Air system
-
Proper trombone maintenance and how to keep it out of the repair shop
-
Building good habits and how to avoid bad habits
-
Creating an understanding of a good practice plan
What is needed to attend:
-
The instrument and mouthpiece. Please be advised that it could take longer than you'd expect to secure a trombone from your local music store. Make sure to check and check often.
-
Most schools have a "check list" of items needed from the store. Most importantly, the participating student needs to have their instrument and mouthpiece, but it would be beneficial to have all items on the check list so that we can explain their use.

*This camp is free for directors with participating students. Directors are welcome to observe or even participate!
*Note to directors. This camp will not hinder or have a negative impact on your beginner trombone class. Quite the opposite. Students who've been introduced to the basic concepts and general plan for a good foundation are much more likely to quickly adapt to your course of action. This can actually help other students, as well. Students, in addition to looking at you for guidance, also look to each other to ensure they are "keeping up."
